Linking to the Government Online Directory

The Government Online Directory is a guide to the structure, organisations and key people in the Australian Government. Information in the site is grouped under the four key arms of government: the Commonwealth Parliament, the Courts, the Governor-General and Australian Government departments and agencies.

Within each group, the information is structured as follows:

• Government Departments and Agencies - Australian Government portfolios are at the first level of the directory. Within each portfolio are departments, other portfolio bodies and Ministers. Within each department and portfolio body there are smaller divisions, branches and related sub-organisations.
• Commonwealth Parliament - Within the Commonwealth Parliament there is the ministry, the shadow ministry, listings of members of parliament and the parliamentary departments.
• Governor-General - Within the Governor-General's entry are the Office of the Official Secretary to the Governor-General, the Federal Executive Council, the Council for the Order of Australia and the Australian Bravery Decorations Council.
• Courts and Judges - The Courts and Judges group contains entries for the High Court, the Federal Court, the Family Court, the Australian Industrial Relations Commission and the Federal Magistrates Court.

In addition to contact details and functional descriptions, entries for these organisations also contain contact details for key senior staff.

Responsibility for information in the Government Online Directory

The Department of Finance and Deregulation is responsible for the ongoing operation and development of the online directory.

The information in the directory is maintained by a network of updaters located within Australian Government organisations who are responsible for ensuring that the information for their organisation is current and accurate.

The Department of Finance and Deregulation makes this information available in good faith with the expectation that it is appropriately maintained by the author organisations. The Department of Finance and Deregulation does not warrant that the information is accurate, comprehensive or up to date. You should make your own inquiries before relying on the information in any important matter.

Last Reviewed Date

The last reviewed date shows the most recent date that information was entered or changed. It is important to note, however, that some information in the Directory does not require updating very often. Accordingly, if a review date is not recent it does not necessarily indicate that the information is out of date.

Staff Listings

The online directory is not a list of all Australian Government public servants: it lists only senior staff information provided by government agencies.

Linking to the Government Online Directory

All Australian government organisations and authorities, State, Territory and Local Government websites may link to this site. Non-government organisations which wish to link to any component of the Government Online Directory service from their websites are asked to contact the Online Directory Manager to request permission.

Permission to link to the Online Directory will be conditional upon the requesting organisation agreeing to:

• immediately notify the Online Directory Manager if a change is made to the requesting website which results in one of Items 1, 2 or 3 (below) applying or if the organisation suspects that the change may mean that Item 4 applies; and
• comply with any request from the Online Directory Manager to remove the link from the requesting wesite.

Permission will not be granted if:

1. Inclusion on the requesting site implies the Australian Government endorses the site or product;
2. The requesting site uses the Government Online Directory solely for commercial practices;
3. The content of the material is changed technically (eg. the material is framed and users are unable to determine the location of the original material);
4. Linking to the site is deemed to be in contravention of government policy or not in the public interest.
